Start Your Career as an RBT or ABA Therapist
How many jobs can truly say that every day they are changing the lives of the children they encounter? At Fusion, you’ll use the skills you’ve acquired through extensive training to make a positive impact, teach daily living skills, and truly better the lives of all the children and families at Fusion.
Fusion is the place where collaboration brings progress!
The University of Florida Behavior Analysis Research Clinic (BARC) with Timothy Vollmer, PhD BCBA-D, BARC Clinical & Research Director, Kerri Peters, PhD., BCBA-D, Intensive Feeding specialist Vivian Ibanez, PhD., BCBA-D and Fusion have established a collaboration that allows UF to provide clinical and research expertise as well as professional training and high-quality peer review for Fusion staff to ensure on-going best practices happen at all Fusion locations.
Fusion provides treatment based on the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, and has a specific focus on early intensive behavioral intervention, verbal behavior (language) training, and social skills training. We specialize in Early Intervention and offer focused treatment, comprehensive treatment, discrete trial instruction and natural environment teaching in individualized plans for each child. Focused treatment services are short-term services designed to focus on improving specific skill areas (e.g., social skills, self-care, and daily living skills) and reducing maladaptive behaviors. Children typically receive less than 25 hours of services per week.
Comprehensive treatment services are long-term services designed to teach children new skills (e.g., communication, self-help skills, and daily living skills) and minimize or eliminate maladaptive behaviors. Communication is one of the most important skills for children to acquire. Comprehensive services will strongly emphasize programs to increase functional language and appropriate social skills and children typically receive 25 or more hours of services per week.
All sessions are customized to each child’s individual needs.
Discrete trial instruction is a highly structured method of teaching that is individualized and broken down into small learning units to enhance a child’s learning. Natural environment teaching is the teaching of skills in the natural environment. Skills are taught by following the child’s lead, capturing a moment when the child is motivated, and teaching a new skill. For example, a child is playing with different colored shapes and the teacher teaches the child to identify the color of the shape he/she is holding.
ABA therapy at Fusion is completely individualized. There are no cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all, plans because each program is written to meet the individual needs of each child. A BCBA will design and oversee the program that involves the child’s skills, needs, deficits, interests, as well as family preferences. These are all used to determine treatment goals for the individual in different skill areas – everything from daily living skills to communication and language. Goals are adjusted as the child progresses and the BCBA will meet regularly with the family for parent training that will help them apply what is being done successfully in the center to the home environment. We take this journey with our Fusion families and recognize their importance at all times.
What is an RBT?
Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) are therapists that work one-on-one with our exceptional children to directly implement an ABA treatment plan designed and guided by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA). They help them acquire new skills and work toward the goals of building communication, social interactions, problem-solving and adaptive living skills. Each day will be different and there are no cookie-cutter plans at Fusion, so there are always new challenges to face and new ideas to incorporate.
Becoming an RBT
Does the role of an RBT sound like something you want to take on, but you’re concerned you don’t have the right qualifications? What I love about Fusion is that in addition to being client and family-oriented, we are staff oriented; Your mentors not only focus on the success of the clients but also on the success of their staff members. From the moment I walked in the doors at Fusion, every day has been a learning experience. I have never worked at a place where every staff member was so ambitious and encouraged to progress, help is always available, and growth is consistently achievable. As an employee at Fusion, the work that we do is incredibly rewarding and not a day goes by that I am not excited to come in to work!
